Ajrak


Ajrak is an essential part of the clothes of a Sindhi culture. It is used by the men as a turban and as a shawl and chaddar by the women.
Ajrak is taken from the times of the ancient civilizations of ihe Indus Valley. This exist from 2500 BC to1500 BC.
A unique printing method:
Ajrak is printed from the both sides and the printing of Ajrak is known as resist printing. This printing is done by people with hand with imprinted wooden blocks. These blocks are printed repeatedly to make a design. Ruler and compass are used by Ajrak maker to make a good and perfect design. Block making is a family craft and passed down from generation to generation.
The major process of making Ajrak is called Teli Ajrak and other process are Sabuni Ajrak, Do Rangi Ajrak and Kori Ajrak.
